  • Member, Board of Directors, Village Help for South Sudan

“How busy are you these days?” my friend Ron asks.

“What do you want?” I reply.

He tells me what I know — that Wunlang School, a mere idea in Franco Majok’s heart in 2005, is forming its own 501(c)3 under the name of Village Help for South Sudan, because it is clear that the future holds more than one school in one village. And there are three directors already …

    “I’d love to,” I said.

It’s very exciting on many levels. Many, many people have hopes and dreams of starting schools and drilling wells in South Sudan. Franco is doing it. I think his school and his approach will be the model for many other projects in Southern Sudan. There’s a lot of do — incorporation to finish, grants to write, the website to keep fresh (soon, a blog of its own!), speaking engagements, more school-to-school partnerships, and … visits to Wunlang!

You can check it all out at www.helpwunlang.org. I see the Board of Directors page needs updating.

  • oh, that’s sad. no, we probably won’t leave early– brandon leaves from DC that morning, drives here, helps me load the car, we have lunch with two villanova professors, then we leave. So we won’t get there until sometime after 8 pm. Maybe the 4th of July? I am rather intrigued by the idea of seeing Brandon and Chaz interact… oh my.
