Sasha and Marni’s wedding picnic
Sasha Chanoff, the executive director of Mapendo, Rebecca’s summer boss, and someone I am so pleased to call a friend, held a picnic in October on the banks of the Charles with his fiancee Marni. It was terrific. The videos of the singing can be found in my previous post. Here are the photos:
Marni holds and Sasha explains their ketubah, a traditional Jewish wedding document, designed in untraditional style, featuring Somerville, Florida, Kenya, and Zanzibar.
Peter Manyang Malang, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan who was in Sasha’s orientation class in Kakuma refugee camp, holds the ketubah for signing.
Marne’s parents advise the bride and groom.
Deng, aged two, catches the action.
Sudanese that Sasha has helped sing for the couple. Click on the last video below of the previous post to hear Atem, the lead singer.
A Somalian (Sasha has helped Somalians, too), Sudanese and Sasha and his arusa (Arabic for bride).
